When in combat you can quickly switch to a secondary weapon by pressing left on the d-pad and it will switch to the gun you used before the one you are holding. Hold that button down and your weapon will be put away almost immediately, and you can get back to interacting with people NOT at the barrel of a gun. Press R1 on a highlighted weapon and choose a slot for it on the favorite menu.
